Bedfordshire is a land-locked county on the Great North Road, north of London. The Chiltern Hills cross the south of the county, whilst the north is made up of mostly gently sloping landscape around the valley of the River Ouse which passes through the county town of Bedford. Other major towns include Luton, Biggleswade, Dunstable and Sandy.
Only one Castle in Bedfordshire, Someries, retains any stonework - although some of the earthwork Castles are well preserved and impressive.
