YARMOUTH
The little Isle of Wight, the other side of the Solent from Hampshire, is now a county in its own right, although traditionally it is part of Hampshire.
The landscape is one of rolling downland and beautiful historic towns such as Shanklin, Ryde, Sandown and Cowes, the home of the Royal Yacht Squadron.
The warm climate and sheltered position has made the Island a favourite holiday spot for Britons, and yet it retains its unspoilt, quiet character.
For such a small island it has a good variety of Castles, best of all being mighty Carisbrooke, one of the best Castles in Southern England.
