PILSBURY CASTLE

Derbyshire

Pilsbury Castle, Derbyshire

A very fine motte and bailey, standing in a remote valley with some lovely views towards the High Peaks in the distance.

It's construction date and history are a little uncertain, although its style dates it very much in the early 1100s.  No stone work is in evidence, but the motte is quite large and its isolated position has enabled the earthworks to remain fairly unviolated.

It stands on public land.
