HALLATON CASTLE

Leicestershire

Hallaton Castle, Leicestershire

This rather massive motte and bailey Castle is the best example in Leicestershire and stands west of one of the county's most attractive villages.

Little is known of its history, but it was most likely an adulterine Castle of the Anarchy.  The Castle was probably never built in stone and excavations uncovered wooden beams.

The Castle stands near a footpath.
