CASTLES OF WIGTOWNSHIRE

At present we haven't visited any Castles in this County.

Map of Wigtownshire

Wigtownshire is the furtherst South and West of the mainland Scottish counties. It is largely mountainous and contains the strange double peninsula of The Rhinns. In general the county is sparsely populated with Stranraer the largest town and Newton Stewart and Wigtown itself.

There are a large number of Castles across the entire county, and particularly along the south Coast, including Wigtown, the Castle of Park and  a large number of towerhouses.
