Wignacourt Tower, Malta

The Tower in St. Paul’s Bay is the most impressive of the Wignacourt Towers, a series of towers built by Grand Master Fra Aloph de Wignacourt in 1610.

There are five of his towers remaining today and they are all like small castles. Later fortifications, with the notable exception of the Red Fort are more like watchtowers than true fortifications.
