CROMWELL'S

KING CHARLES'

STAR

The glorious sunshine islands of the Isles of Scilly lie 28 miles off Land's End. Visiting the islands is like stepping back in time to another era, when there was no crime, people trusted each other and no door was ever locked.

The main islands, St. Mary's, Tresco, St. Agnes, St. Martin's and Bryher have small populations of farmers and fishermen; tough but friendly people. Although strictly speaking part of Cornwall, we've decided to include the Scillies as their own separate section.

Roy and Andrew on Tresco

There are many hundreds of ships wrecked around the Islands and this was one of the reasons for their strategic importance in the latter years of the middle ages.  The three major Castles remaining on the islands all date from this period.  Cromwell's Castle on Tresco is normally considered to be the last defensive Castle built in the United Kingdom.
