Although South Africa emerged from the shadow of Apartheid with the release of Nelson Mandela, after a period of prosperity it is once again gripped by civil strife and frequent outbreaks of violence.
This doesn't stop it being one of the most beautiful countries in Africa with some superb Game Parks in the North and unique Cape Town in the far south. The capital is Pretoria in the north.
