MIDDLETON STONEY CASTLE

Oxfordshire

Middleton Stoney Castle, Oxfordshire

Relatively little is known of this Castle, although it is mentioned in records from 1215 and was certainly in existence by that point.  It is unlikely to have been an adulterine Castle as Oxfordshire was always well under Royal control, although it could have been built during the Anarchy.

No trace of stonework has ever been found.

The Castle stands in fields near the church.
