KINGSGATE CASTLE

Kent

Kingsgate Castle, Kent

Kingsgate Castle stands majestically above the cliffs of the North Foreland Point.  A breathtaking sight, but sadly not a genuine Castle, but one of a collection of follies erected in the area by Lord Holland, although the Kingsgate we see today has been altered way beyond what Lord Holland constructed, which was a typical "ruin" type Castle folly.

In the 1860s his "ruin" was extended and became the building that today operates as the Kingsgate Castle Hotel.  Although a handsome building, it looks best when silhouetted against the sky from the beach (as above).
