CASTLES
OF KIRKCUDBRIGHTSHIRE
At present we haven't visited any Castles in this County.
Pronounced Kirk-coo-bri-shire, this is the middle of the three Scottish counties on the northern shore of the Solway Firth. The county is mostly hilly, especially as you head west. Like all border areas there are a large number of Castles, particularly along the south coast and a number of quite good ones amongst them. The main towns are Kirkcudbright itself, Castle Douglas and the gloriously named Gatehouse of Fleet, but the county (also known as The Stewartry of Kirkcudbright) is by and large rural and quiet.
