LITTLE HOUGHTON CASTLE

Northamptonshire

Little Houghton Castle, Northamptonshire

This very fine motte stands just outside Northampton itself, and is somewhat inaccurately named "Little" Houghton, as it is a rather large and impressive motte, standing by the River Nene.

It's history is hardly known, although it most likely dates from the early 1100s.

It stands near a public footpath which runs along the River.
