ROTHERFIELD GREYS CASTLE

Oxfordshire

Rotherfield Greys Castle, Oxfordshire

Known nowadays as Greys Court, only bits remain of this Castle, most of which has been incorporated into the more modern buildings.  The first Castle here was built around 1347, and although never very defensive much of the medieval work that has survived is from this Castle and is scattered amongst modern buildings, Georgian buildings and Tudor constructions.

The only section to remain in any great amount is the east curtain wall - in its disguise as a garden wall - from the end of which is the octagonal tower (pictured above).

The whole pot pourri of buildings is owned by the National Trust and open to the public during the Summer.
