Map of Dumfriesshire

CAERLAVEROCK

The large Border county of Dumfriesshire sits at the western end of the Scottish/English Border and extends out into the Irish Sea. In the south, the landscape is hilly but rolling and along the coast is one of wide bays and dramatic views. As you head north and inland, the land rises to mountainous. The main towns are Dumfries, Moffat and Gretna Green.

The county has a large number of Castles spread right across its area, and particularly concentrated  on the coastal region.
