DOBROYD CASTLE

Lancashire

Dobroyd Castle, Lancashire

This rather grim building of local black gritstone stands today in Yorkshire, the border having shifted very slightly westwards in 1974.  The town it stands next to, Todmorden, having shifted back and forth several times, but having mostly been in Yorkshire.

The Castle is, of course, a 'gothick' building dating to the mid 1800s.  For many years it lay empty but has recently been restored and is a family home once again.

The Castle is private, but the owners are very welcoming - or were when we visited at least!
