CASTLETHORPE CASTLE

Buckinghamshire

Castlethorpe Castle, Buckinghamshire

This quite extensive Castle site stands on common land in the northern outskirts of Milton Keynes.  Although little of the earthworks stand to any great height the size of the ground plan of the Castle is impressive.

The original Castle was destroyed by King John as it was owned by Robert Mauduit (one of the Magna Carta barons).  In 1292 it was rebuilt by William de Beauchamp after which time its history is unclear.  There are no signs of any stonework.
