Lord Cobham's Castle, Buckinghamshire

This eccentrically handsome structure standing slap bang in the middle of Buckingham High Street was constructed by the same man responsible for the follies of nearby Stowe House, Lord Cobham.  Although this building is not strictly speaking a folly, it was built in order to allow Buckingham to stage an Assize at the Old Gaol in 1748.  Strictly speaking "Lord Cobham's Castle" is only a nickname, but it is one that has stuck over the years and it is today probably Buckingham towns best landmark.

It houses a town museum and is open regularly throughout the year.
