CASTLES
OF CAITHNESS
At present we haven't visited any
Castles in this County.
Caithness
is the extremem northern end of Mainland Scotland. Here is John
O'Groats, the most northerly mainland settlement in Britain. There are
few settlements of any size, Wick and Thurso being the largest, and the landscape is one of harsh moorland.
Because of its extreme northerness and the difficult landscape it has
relatively few Castles, especially by Scottish terms, the best known is
probably the Castle of Mey a favourite haunt of the Queen Mother.
