Castleton Castle, Herefordshire

Standing in spitting distance of where the River Wye passes into Wales, this Castle is believed to have been the original Castle built by the Clifford family before they moved a mile or so closer to Hay-on-Wye to the Castle that now bears their name.

The Castle, although a little worn down, is an excellent example of a motte and bailey Castle and is worth a visit for its superb position.  It is on public land.
