Pirton Church, Hertfordshire

St. Mary the Virgin was started in 1100, around the same time as the motte and bailey castle which stands close by. The tower is late 12th Century and all was restored quite gently around 1877.

A doodlebug blew out all the stained glass windows during World War II, leaving the church looking rather Spartan today.
