CASBAH OF TANGIER

Morocco

Casbah of Tangier, Morocco

The Kasbah dating to the 17th Century was fortified from the Roman period onwards. Most of what survives today is from the 17th Century rebuild.

Unlike European castles, Kasbah’s are more like small fortified towns with arcades, alleyways and houses all clustered within the walls.

From the town itself it is hard to get an idea of Tangier’s fortifications – but these can be seen most clearly from the sea.
