Version One - November 2002
It was a rainy night
We walked together - hunched against the storm
Through the empty streets
Trees blowing - fallen leaves forlorn.
High up above our heads
Stand three towers - radiant and proud
Swathed in greens and reds
Shrouded and ethereal - hidden in low cloud.
Lincoln's Cathedral stands
Mysterious and grand - bathed in mist and rain
We hold each other and stare
Awestruck and breathless - amidst the twisting lanes.
The rain blows around
Creating patterns - bright clouds around the towers
Beautiful building stands
With swirls of light - ephemeral liquid flowers.
We stand for a long while
Then we leave - reluctantly we depart
The vision we just shared
Will remain forever - etched into our hearts.
Version Two - May 2003
A rainy night in Lincoln
We walk together, hunched against the storm
Through the empty streets
Trees blowing, fallen leaves forlorn.
High up above our heads
Stand three towers, radiant and proud;
Swathed in greens and reds
Shrouded and ethereal, draped in low cloud.
Lincoln's Cathedral stands
Mysterious and grand, bathed in mist and rain,
We hold each other
Awestruck and breathless, amidst the twisting lanes.
The rain blows round,
Creating patterns around the towers
Tracery and swirls of light
Dancing ephemeral liquid flowers
We stand for a long while
Then reluctantly, depart
The vision we just shared
Remains etched into our hearts.
