Behind the plough
the turned earth
lay russet and glistening
exposed
to the unforgiving sky.

A flotilla of birds
follow eagerly
picking over the spoil
plucking
unlucky insects from safety.

And the tractor
clanks along
on its huge and dramatic
wheels
pulling the plough behind.
