LIDDINGTON CASTLE

Wiltshire

Liddington Castle, Wiltshire

Liddington Castle is an Iron Age Hill Fort containing some 3 hectares which stands south of Swindon overlooking the M4 motorway.  It is quite a simple affair, with one bank and a small entrance area.  Excavations have revealed that it was occupied during the Roman period.

Nearby are the remains of flint mines.  Like all of its kind, there is little concrete evidence of history at Liddington and all we are left with is the impressive structure with its even more impressive view.

Liddington Castle overlooks the Ridgeway path, and is accessible to the pubic, although you need to be reasonably fit to cope with the climb!
