HARVEY’S RIVAL

Andrew J. Müller

Harvey the Remarkable Cat
Had been wandering around one day
When he spied another cat
And decided to go and play.

The cat was Old Black Jake
And he had a tattered ear
And one funny starey eye
Which filled Harvey with fear.

But Harvey knew that you
Don’t judge a cat by it’s fur
He would try to befriend Jake
That’s what his thoughts were.

But when Harvey got near
Old Jake began to spit and hiss
And lashed out with his big claws
Giving Harvey’s nose a near miss.

Harvey’s tail fluffed up into a big brush
He looked like a funny ginger fox
He didn’t know what he’d done
But Old Jake just wanted to box.

So Harvey turned and ran the other way
And behind him he could hear Jake yowl
"Don’t come back here no more, boy
Don’t want no rival on the prowl".

Harvey got back into his garden
Wondering what it was he’d done
Now he had a rival it seemed
Without even trying to get one.
