HARVEY’S CHRISTMAS

Andrew J. Müller

‘Twas the night before Christmas
And all over the house
Not a creature was stirring
Especially not a mouse.

The reason for this quiet
Was curled up on the mat
Asleep before the fire
Was Harvey the Remarkable Cat.

But his slumber was disturbed
By a bang and a cloud of soot
That shot from out the fire
Followed by a big booted foot.

Frightened by this sudden surprise
Harvey jumped up into the air
Ran across the room
And hid behind the chair.

A whoosh of black soot and
A fat man came down the chimneystack
Walked across the floor
And put down his heavy sack.

From his sack he pulled some presents
And put them under the tree
Then turned and ate his mince pies
Harvey craned his little neck to see.

With a satisfied smile
Santa Claus turned around to go
Then said "Merry Christmas, Harvey"
And was gone with a "Ho Ho Ho".
