HARVEY AND THE KIPPER

by Andrew J. Müller

It was early in the morning
And Harvey was feeling swell
He went out in to the garden
And that’s when he smelt the smell.

It wafted across the fence
From a couple of doors away
It made Harvey’s belly rumble
In a most annoying way.

So Harvey went looking
To find the source until
He saw a fresh-cooked kipper
Sitting on a windowsill.

So he jumped up on the window
To have a nibble — nothing more
But as he took a bite
The kipper fell off onto the floor.

Harvey picked it back up
And leapt back to the window frame
Then he heard a sound from another room
And he realised this was no game.

So he ran back to his garden
With the kipper in his teeth
It flopped out either side
And the tail dragged underneath.

Jane was waiting for him at the house
And she said "Where did you get that?"
She wagged her finger at him and said
"Harvey, you’re such a naughty cat!"
