by Andrew J. Müller
On a Fenland train
In the pouring rain
Through the damp and dour
Looms an old church tower
Through the flat fields slither
A dull grey river
Over deep dark ground
Boggy, wet and brown
Raggedy trees
Shedding Autumns leaves
Reflections shine
Off wet railway line
Then Peterborough Town
Is coming around
Cathedral spires
High above the mires
As the train rolls back
On the rattling track
The station appears
As the train pulls near
Then were off again
On a Fenland train.
This poem appears alongside many others by Andrew in BeWrite Books's "Shaken and Stirred: Poetry from the Far Corners" published in 2002.
