COMMUTER'S BLUES

by Andrew J. Müller

I've got those ol' commuter's blues
I got them down to my business shoes
On the train most every day
People unhappy what can I say
Talk to me, what've you got to lose
I've got those ol' commuter's blues.

Commuting, man, it's getting me down
Smelly ol' train into London's town
Squashed in there like the sardine fish
Hoping for escape making a wish
So much sweat I feel I might drown
Commuting, man, it's getting me down.

I've got those ol' commuter's blues
I got them down to my business shoes
Ticket, man, it costs so much money
And the service you get is just not funny
Alternatives aren't there to choose
I've got those ol' commuter's blues.

Underground squash elbow in my face
God, I want to get out of the rat race
Pissed off
Hacked off
I wish I was in another place
Not underground squash elbow in my face.

I've got those ol' commuter's blues
I got them down to my business shoes
Got to get outta here, go somewhere free
Just the birds, the trees, the wind and me
To sit by the sea and read or just snooze
Got to escape those ol' commuter's blues.

This poem appears alongside many others by Andrew in BeWrite Books's "Shaken and Stirred: Poetry from the Far Corners" published in 2002.
