The glorious coastal county of Sussex (nowadays split down the middle into East and West Sussex) has some of England's great Castles - Herstmonceux, Pevensey, Arundel, Bodiam.
The South Downs form the backbone of the county and are one of the most unspoilt parts of southern England (recently created a National Park). The north of Sussex is largely heathland and the Ashdown Forest, with few large towns (apart from Crawley, near the site of Gatwick Airport).
Sussex's famous coast contains some of Britain's best loved seaside towns - Brighton, Hove, Worthing, Eastbourne and historic Hastings amongst many others.
