Staffordshire is not a county over-endowed with Castles, but amongst those that are there are some superb examples, best of all being Tamworth - one of the finest preserved medieval Castles in England.

Roy and Andrew at Alton Towers

Staffordshire is mostly made up of low-lying clay soil and this gave rise to the Potteries - centred mostly around Stoke-on-Trent (one of the England's least attractive towns) and dominated by the figure of Josiah Wedgewood whose famous blue and white designs are known worldwide.

In the far north east of the county the Peak District National Park begins, and Britain's most famous Theme Park, Alton Towers, is near to the Castle of Alton.
