Map of Hungary showing places visited

***

At one time Hungary was one of the most powerful centres of Europe when the Austro-Hungarian Empire ruled half the continent.

Today Hungary is perhaps the most western and modern of all the former Communist countries of Eastern Europe. Long before the end of the Soviet Union Hungary was making moves towards the West, which left it in a good position when Communism collapsed.

The capital city, Budapest, is one of Europe's greatest cities - culturally and architecturally it rivals Paris, London, Prague or any of the other centres of Northern Europe. Hungary has already become a firm tourist favourite, a situation which will only increase as more and more people begin to realise that this country has so much to offer.
