There can be few places in England more typical of "olde England" than the glorious Cotswolds, most of which are in the east of the county of Gloucestershire, with their honey-coloured stone buildings and beautiful setting they are an area of calm loveliness.
But there is more to Gloucestershire than the Cotswolds...the Forest of Dean in the part of the county north of the great River Severn (Britain's longest river) is one of the best preserved parts of the "old forest" of Britain, the city of Bristol in the far west is one of England's most historic.
Of the Castles the best by far are Sudeley (the 1000th Castle we visited - picture above) and Berkeley, the scene of the grisly murder of Edward II.
