GALLERY '91: Picture Sixteen

The Fifteenth of September 1991 would be a date which would LOOM LARGE in Andrew and Roy's lives for the next seven years or more.  It was the day they visited Dover Castle and began their Castles of England Project.

Sometime during the late summer of that year Roy had off-handedly said "how about writing a book about all of England's Castles" whilst he and Andrew had discussed the difficulties of getting their work published.  They had often visited Castles and both had an interest in history. It sounded, at the time, like such a simple thing.  Travel around England visiting Castles, photographing them and then writing about them...surely there couldn't be more than about four hundred could there?

Seven years and over 1400 Castles later they arrived at Rochester to visit their last English Castle! For a picture of their visit to Rochester, go to Gallery 1998, Picture Sixty-Three.
