The county of Dorset is the epitome of England.  Rolling green hills, chalk and sandstone cliffs, beautiful villages with fascinating names like Ryme Intrinsica and Piddletrenthide.  It is an unspoilt paradise and one of our favourite counties of England.  Along with Somerset and Wiltshire it is one of the three counties of Wessex.

It is also a county of natural oddities.  Chesil Beach (see picture above) a 3 mile long spit of pebbles (supposedly washed up overnight) which attaches the Isle of Portland to the mainland; Lulworth Cove, a perfectly circular inlet; Durdle Door and Harry Rocks, two sets of weird chalk cliffscapes.

Dorset has a superb collection of Castles from the downright peculiar (Rufus Castle) through the greatest hillfort in Britain, Maiden Castle to the magnificent ruin that is Corfe Castle.
