The vast county of Devon (second only in size to Yorkshire) has a hugely varied and rich landscape and history.  The western edges of Exmoor stretch into the north of the county, the rugged coast sheltering picture-postcard villages such as Clovelly and Lynmouth.

The centre of the county is made up of rolling, beautiful hills and valleys, with the bulk of the south being occupied by the vast, dangerous wilderness that is Dartmoor - famed for being the setting of Conan Doyle's "The Hound of the Baskervilles".

Devon is also a maritime county with Plymouth, Dartmouth and Exeter on the south coast all being important ports.

Devon is also well blessed with Castles, of great variety, from glorious ruins such as Okehampton, through impressive stately homes such as Powderham to follies like Watermouth and Fishleigh - and Castle Drogo, completed in 1942.
