Cornwall is the Celtic land of myths and legends of England.  Tales of King Arthur abound, as do folk tales from earlier times of pixies (pronounced piskeys hereabouts) and other magical folk. Cornwall has its own flag and its own language (Cornwall, for instance, is "Kernow").

As a counter-balance to this quaintness Cornwall was also once an industrial area; with tin mining the main industry.  The mines are now all closed, but their gaunt engine houses still pepper the landscape.

Land's End is the farthest west place in mainland Britain, and the Lizard is the furthest south. Further east Tintagel Castle stands on the cliffs, pounded by waves and forever connected with King Arthur (whether or not there is any truth in this is somewhat debatable).

Cornwall truly is a land apart.
